1+ day, 2+ hour ago (467+ words) COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio may start paying its small towns and villages to merge. A new bill at the statehouse would create a $25 million grant program to reward local governments that combine into one community. Akron Republican Rep. Jack Daniels and Berea Republican Rep. Mike Dovilla pitched the idea in House Bill 574. It would offer as much as $2.5 million to any township, village, or city that completes a merger. The exact amount would depend on the new community's population and administrative costs. "I think the state is ripe for this kind of improvement," Dovilla said. Ohio has 253 cities, 673 villages, and 1,308 townships, according to data from the Ohio Secretary of State's Office. Each municipality must fund police, roads, and basic services. Ohio State has opened its season with 11 straight wins, capped by Saturday's victory against Rutgers. The Buckeyes will likely also be the top-ranked team in Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings, and they're in position to make the CFP regardless of The Game's result. Michigan (9-2, 7-1 Big Ten), though, is currently on the outside of the 12-team field looking in. The Wolverines are in must-win territory entering the final week of the regular season. What a summer reading assignment tells us about Ohio State football’s desire to beat Michigan
1+ day, 20+ hour ago (563+ words) Ohio State vs. Rutgers, November 22, 2025 COLUMBUS, Ohio " Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones famously wrote that he didn't come to Columbus to play school. He came to play football. However, the most elementary educational concept might give us a glimpse into why Ohio State believes it can end its four-game skid against Michigan on Saturday: summer reading. Coach Ryan Day tasked his team with reading Joshua Medcalf's "Chop Wood Carry Water: How to Fall in Love with the Process of Becoming Great." The purpose of the assignment was, as the title suggests, teaching the Buckeyes how to properly build toward beating the Wolverines. The ultimate goals are obvious: beating Michigan, winning the Big Ten and securing a national title. To get there, though, Ohio State needed to understand the importance of drills, practices and games " such as Saturday's win over…...

Prior to a Nov. 8 win at Purdue, Tate felt some tightness, according to coach Ryan Day. The seventh-year coach said Tate could have played against the Boilermakers but didn't as a precautionary measure. He was then listed as out on OSU's availability report heading into last week's win vs. UCLA. When asked Tuesday if Tate was dealing with a setback, Day provided no update. Smith was listed as questionable on last week's availability report. While he suited up " catching four passes for 40 yards " he only played 22 snaps. Smith's 10 receiving touchdowns lead the…...
